Dauvit Broun has been lecturing in medieval Scottish history at the University of Glasgow since 1990, since 2009 as the Professor of Scottish History. He has published extensively on medieval Scottish identity, including Scottish Independence and the Idea of Britain from the Picts to Alexander III (2007). One of his current projects is on the Church and the Beginning of Scotland. He was elected FRSE in 2013 and FBA in 2017.
